Signs that can't wait
Go to an emergency hospital immediately, do not wait for morning, if your pet has any of these:
- Difficulty breathing, or gums that look blue, white, or grey
- Unproductive retching or a swollen, hard belly (especially large-breed dogs)
- Collapse, or inability to stand
- A male cat straining in the litter box and producing nothing
- Suspected poisoning (antifreeze, rodent bait, human medications, xylitol gum)
- Seizures lasting more than a couple of minutes, or repeated seizures
- Uncontrolled bleeding, or hit by a car, even if they "seem fine"
- Labor that stalls: straining over 30 minutes with no puppy or kitten
- Snake bite
